Conan Gray is an American singer-songwriter, and raw honesty has been the through line of his work from his 2020 debut Kid Krow through 2022's Superache. His third album, Found Heaven (2024), was the first time he actually had fun making a record — he was smiling while recording the vocals, he says, and thinks you can hear it. The album leans hard on the eighties; songs like 'Found Heaven', 'Bourgeoisieses' and 'Lonely Dancers' make you want to move however sad the lyrics are. Of his fourth album, Wishbone, he says his entire career led to it: in early adulthood you try on so many versions of yourself, and where his second and third albums were him working out who he was, Wishbone is a truer look. He needed to be brutally honest, he says, to a point that is uncomfortable.
