Lamyai Haithongkham is one of the most heavily booked Isan luk thung singers working today, on tour at home and abroad. Audiences love the spirit of her dancing and stagecraft, how natural she is, and her voice — through songs like 'Phu Sao Kha Lo', 'Jep Trong Ni', 'Jai Si Phe', 'Doe Diang Dang', 'Sik Ngik', and her cover of 'Yai Laem', which put that song back in everyone's ear. She grew up with molam and loved luk thung as a child until it became the dream of singing it for a living; she started out travelling to sing and entering competitions before Haithongkham Records saw what she had. Most of her life now happens in a van, because there is a concert in another province almost every day. Tiring sometimes, she says, but never discouraging: this is the work she loves, and working is when she is having the most fun. What she wants is to carry molam onto a world stage.
