Until 2024 Max Zhang was a UBC student making music in his bedroom in Burnaby, British Columbia. Under the name yung kai he released 'Blue' that year; it spread as a TikTok soundtrack and he spent the next one on a world tour, with a debut album, 'stay with the ocean, I'll find you', following in September 2025. He told CBC it has been his dream to make music for a living — and that now it has happened, it is hard to process.
