Show evidence →Zara Larsson is a Swedish pop singer whose album Midnight Sun holds on to summer's light. Sweden's extreme climate is the backdrop to her music — daylight that will not end, then months of winter dark — and the record keeps that tension all the way through: songs euphoric on the surface with deep melancholy underneath, the way Swedes savour a brief warmth knowing what follows. It is a pattern that has run through Swedish pop since ABBA. On wanting to be number one she is plain about it: nobody stays there forever, that is simply the nature of it, but she wants to taste it.
