keshi is a Vietnamese-American singer-songwriter from Houston, Texas, whose career began with self-produced music made in his bedroom under that name. It grew into millions of streams, a place on a Marvel soundtrack, a debut EP — Gabriel — with the highest first-week sales of any debut album that year, and a sold-out touring cycle that took in Radio City Music Hall and the Greek Theatre. You are never going to get an album from him that sounds homogenous, he says: he is a proud musician and wants to show he can make many kinds of song. He wants fans to expect something to change, because nothing is worse than making a record that sounds like the last one. His second album, Requiem, runs thirteen tracks across a daring range of influences including city pop, and pays tribute to a late friend who was, he says, a big champion of him and his art.
