Perfume are a Japanese electro-pop trio. Listeners outside Japan first noticed them when one of their songs appeared in the 2011 animated film Cars 2, though they were already a popular girl group at home on the strength of songs like 'Polyrhythm'. The following year they toured elsewhere in Asia for the first time, and in June 2013 became the first Japanese act invited to perform at the Cannes Lions festival in France — with choreography synchronised to the frame, costumes that transformed, and staging by the media art collective Rhizomatiks using state-of-the-art technology. They took the Silver Lion in the Cyber category there, and launched a second international tour through Germany, England and France.
