YOASOBI are built on a single premise: turning novels into music. Ayase produces, ikura sings. Their first song, 'Yoru ni Kakeru', is a musical rendering of a short story from Sony Music Japan's creative-writing platform, and it puts ikura's heartfelt voice and the upbeat earnestness of J-pop against a subject as dark as death — the mix of light and dark that has marked their work since. It went viral through the first year of the pandemic and became the first song in the history of the Japanese recording industry association to be certified diamond.
