Mark Tuan first became known in 2014 as a member of GOT7, as rapper, vocalist, dancer and songwriter. After the solo album the other side he toured alone across North and South America and Asia. Since focusing on solo work his songs have become more personal, he says, and he tries to write things his listeners can recognise themselves in. On the single 'Alone' he moves into atmospheric R&B, a turn from the alt-pop of Silhouette. He wanted to try something new and see how far his range could go, he says; genres are so blurred now that trying another style does not feel like leaving anything behind — he focused on what he wanted to say, and this was the sound that came with it. Silhouette set the ground and let people see him outside the spotlight, but it showed the easier parts: not the overthinking, not the restlessness that arrives once things go quiet.
