Ornaree began in 1995 on Bakery Music, in the middle of a pop boom, and their raw sound and clear direction made them the face of everyone who wanted something different — a band people still talk about. Orn Ornaree Chularat says she was studying abroad through the nineties, the alternative and grunge years, and brought those songs home with her, though she had listened to metal first. She calls what she does grunge-gaze. After more than thirty years in this, reaching new listeners has not been much of an obstacle, she says, because she has always worked to please herself: she treats her work as art, makes what she wants to express and what makes her happy, and does not much mind who it happens to land with.
