ADOY are a Korean band who describe what they do as commercial indie. Their music is marked by a floating feeling crossing with a rushing one. For a while they chased abstractions that resist being pinned down — youth, love, vividness — across singles, EPs and a full album, and what they finally arrived at was the 2021 mini-album her: another person's world entering your own and making everything vivid. The opening song 'Simply' begins in a composed posture, ready to accept whatever ending the story already underway might have. 'Antihero' and 'Saint' follow, two synth-pop numbers that run fearlessly through the middle of a summer's light. The album's second half lets the heat down slowly — 'Baby', asking over and over how the other person feels, and 'NY', which moves the scene beneath New York's skyscrapers.
