Nell are a four-piece Korean rock band: Kim Jong-wan singing, Lee Jae-kyoung on lead guitar, Lee Jung-hoon on bass and Jung Jae-won on drums. Their music is unusually good at reading what is in people and putting raw feeling into song, mostly in a melancholy and pessimistic register. Their eighth studio album, COLORS IN BLACK, is nine songs all composed by Kim, and as gloomy as ever. His head is full of dark thoughts, he says, so he could not pretend to be bright in order to write. He also believes the music will sound different depending on who is listening: some may find it comforting, while others who have been through something similar may take it more seriously.
