DIIV are an American indie rock band: Zachary Cole Smith, Colin Caulfield, Ben Newman and Andrew Bailey. Their sound moved from lo-fi indie rock toward shoegaze and grunge around Deceiver, and for all its leaning into darkness they say there is a great deal of hope inside the songs. The latest album is produced by AG Cook and came out more buoyant than anyone expected. Smith says he sees an alternative to capitalism, and this time the band is also building a visual language of its own — something they had never done with what they wear.
