Lim Young-woong is a South Korean trot singer who signed with Mulgogi Music in 2016 and debuted with 'Hate You'. Trot, or ppongjjak, is a genre built on repeating rhythm and particular vocal inflections. He rose to wide prominence through TV Chosun's competition show Mr. Trot in 2020, and was the first trot artist to earn a Gold Play Button for a million YouTube subscribers. His first full-length, Im Hero — also his first physical album — took preorders of a million units in about a month, a record for an individual artist's album since the 2000s, and sold 940,000 copies on its release day. Since his debut, his songs have charted high on the major domestic charts every time he releases one.
