The Omnific are a three-piece from Melbourne — two bass players and a drummer — making their own kind of instrumental prog rock. It was never meant to be a band: Matt asked Toby to help demo a track from another band of his, having seen videos Toby had posted, and the idea of a two-bass track came out of that. They put one up a couple of weeks later, it drew a fair amount of attention, and as more tracks were written it turned into a group. The two basses came about because nobody had done it in the context they had in mind, and because both of them play at a similar level. As for titling instrumental music, they look for a good word whose meaning loosely fits the track.
