Cashu is the name Carol Schutzer performs under, a São Paulo DJ and a pillar of her city's queer electronic music community. She entered electronic music in mid-2011 while studying architecture at a college in central São Paulo, as a street-party movement was taking shape there. She met the musician and activist Laura Diaz on the free-party circuit in 2012, began organising street parties with the Voodoohop collective, and in 2013 the two founded the collective and record label Mamba Negra, christened with a rooftop rave at Schutzer's old apartment. Rooted in resistance and radical politics, Mamba Negra has been instrumental in amplifying marginalised voices, has worked for five years with Casa Florescer — an NGO supporting the trans community — raising funds and co-hosting street parties, and has created a much-needed safe space for women and the LGBTQIA+ community in Brazil. She has played the Boiler Room stage at Dekmantel.
