Green Day are a pioneering punk-pop band — Billie Joe Armstrong on vocals and guitar, Tré Cool on drums, Mike Dirnt on bass. 2024 marked thirty years since their breakthrough record Dookie and twenty since the multi-platinum American Idiot, which was adapted into a Broadway musical. Their fourteenth studio album, Saviors, arrived that January, and the band promised to play Dookie and American Idiot in full at every show on the tour alongside songs from the new record. Armstrong remembers that when they first started playing together there was a trend of who could play fastest, and he did not want to do that — it was not really musical to him, and it became a bit macho. They did not want to be a bunch of tough guys; they would rather have bigger hearts than bigger muscles.
